Affordability and Utilities is hosting a nuclear energy webinar for municipalities on December 2nd
The Government of Alberta Ministry of Affordability and Utilities is continuing to engage on the future of nuclear energy in Alberta, including hosting a webinar for municipalities on Tuesday, December 2, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
The webinar will feature an overview of the Alberta nuclear energy engagement process and the nuclear energy industry in Canada. Guest speakers include Dr. Jason Donev from the University of Calgary, who will provide an introduction to nuclear energy, and His Worship Adrian Foster, Mayor of Clarington (and Chair of the Canadian Association of Nuclear Host Communities) who will share insights into the experience and role of nuclear energy host municipalities.
Registration for the webinar closes on Monday, December 1 at 12:00 noon. Please RSVP for the webinar using this registration link.
Additionally, the province has extended the deadline for municipalities to provide feedback on the future of nuclear energy in Alberta. Input is being collected via a Request for Information (RFI).
Phase One of the engagement was first announced in August and shared in an RMA bulletin, with an initial closing date of October 25. The RFI was re-issued on November 24 with a new deadline, giving municipalities until Friday, December 19, 2025, to submit responses to Affordability and Utilities.
