Four seats on the RMA Board of Directors are up for election at the RMA 2025 Fall Convention
The RMA 2025 Fall Convention will take place November 17-20 with the following four seats on the Board of Directors being up for election. All positions will serve a two-year term (2025 – 2027):
- Vice President
- District 2 Director
- District 3 Director
- District 5 Director
As a result of the Alberta municipal elections which will be held on October 20, 2025, additional board positions may become available and newly elected individuals may wish to submit a nomination package. Due to the timing of the municipal elections and the RMA convention, a preliminary list of candidates and a secondary call for nominations will be issued for all available board positions after the municipal election.
RMA Board Elections Policy and Procedures
The RMA Board Elections Policy and related procedure guides the process for all elections. Complete eligibility requirements for members of the RMA Board of Directors are outlined in section E of the RMA Bylaws, including that the individual must be a duly elected official for a full RMA member municipality. For the position of district directors, individuals must represent a municipality that is within the district that is up for election.
RMA full members interested in joining the Board of Directors are requested to review the Fall 2025 Board of Directors Elections Information Package for detailed information on board roles and responsibilities, the commitment required, and related RMA governance policies. The RMA also encourages members interested in pursuing an RMA board position to contact a current board member, CEO and Executive Director, Duane Gladden or Executive Officer of External Relations and Strategy, Tasha Blumenthal to gain a full understanding of the responsibility and commitment required.
As per the RMA Board Elections Policy, candidates may submit nomination papers for both the position of Vice President and the available District Director position that represents their member municipality. In this case, candidates must submit two separate nomination papers and, in the event that the candidate is successful in the Vice President election, their nomination for District Director will be rescinded. A current board member that is mid-term (i.e., one year into a two-year term) can submit a nomination package for the position of Vice President without resigning from their board director position. In this case, members of their district will be informed and given two weeks to submit a completed nomination electronically in the form prescribed by the Returning Officer.
As result of the timing of the Alberta municipal election and RMA convention, the deadline for the position of Vice President and all District Director positions shall be two weeks prior to the start of fall convention.
Therefore, for 2025 elections a single deadline for all positions is Monday, November 3, 2025 at 4:30pm
Due to the Alberta municipal election, and in alignment with the Board Elections Policy, a preliminary list of candidates and a subsequent call for nominations will be issued after the municipal election on October 20, 2025. A final list of candidates for all positions will be published on the RMA website after November 3, 2025.
All complete nomination papers must be submitted electronically by the aforementioned deadlines to the RMA Returning Officer, Todd Brand, at toddbrand@hotmail.com.
