New intake window designed to accommodate municipalities who will not be able to finalize an agreement with Circular Materials by December 31, 2024.
The Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) is introducing an additional intake period to assist municipalities unable to complete the required contractual service agreements with Circular Materials prior to the December 31, 2024 deadline to receive service by April 1, 2025. Circular Materials is the Producer Responsible Organization (PRO) acting on behalf of producers to receive single-use products, packaging and paper products (PPP) services under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model. The additional intake period has been structured to allow municipalities facing delays in finalizing contracts to continue negotiations without facing an 18 month delay until EPR phase two commences. This will also ensure there is no economic benefit for producers of PPP by unnecessarily delaying EPR in certain areas.
Changes to Intake
Additional Intake Period: Municipalities unable to finalize contractual service agreements with Circular Materials by December 31, 2024, will have until March 31, 2025, to take advantage of this additional intake period with service beginning on July 1, 2025.
Eligibility: This intake period is limited to Phase I municipalities already registered under the EPR program and actively working to finalize contracts with producers. Municipalities must notify ARMA if they anticipate needing this intake period to ensure eligibility.
