Minister Responds to RMA Letter on Canola Trade

Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Marie-Claude Bibeau responds to RMA advocacy on Canadian canola trade with China

RMA has been advocating to the federal government regarding the ongoing trade issue with China on canola. Canola production is an important part of Alberta farms, which in turn provides stability to rural areas through both direct and indirect employment.

The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, wrote a letter in response to RMA’s advocacy outlining the Government of Canada’s activities related to the canola trade issue. These activities include:

  • Addressing the issue at the World Trade Organization
  • Providing $150 million in insurance support for Canadian canola exporters
  • Acknowledging the need to appoint a new ambassador to China
