Integrated Water Program Survey Now Open

The Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridors is launching a new program to enhance water infrastructure for industrial and agricultural use.

The Government of Alberta, through the Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC), is continuing development of the Integrated Water Program (IWP) – a new initiative aimed at improving and expanding water infrastructure across Alberta. The program is intended to support residential, industrial, and agricultural water systems, aligning with Alberta’s broader goals of water security, economic sustainability, and healthy ecosystems. The proposed framework will consolidate existing grant programs into three distinct streams: the Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership (AMWWP), Water for Life (W4L), and a new Economic Development Initiative (EDI) designed to expand eligibility and better address industrial and agricultural infrastructure needs.

As part of the program development process, TEC has launched a survey to gather input from municipalities and regional water commissions. RMA encourages members to participate in the survey and share their perspectives to help shape a funding framework that reflects the realities and priorities of rural communities.

The survey seeks feedback on:

  • The current state of municipal and regional water/wastewater infrastructure
  • Investment needs and barriers
  • Key elements of the proposed program

The survey includes a short explainer video and will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. Responses will directly inform the design and implementation of the IWP.

The survey closes September 5, 2025 at 11:59 pm and can be accessed here.

RMA is actively engaged in ongoing discussions with TEC to ensure rural municipal priorities are well-represented in the IWP framework. This includes advocating for equitable support for agricultural and industrial water infrastructure, which plays a vital role in rural economic development.
