Government of Alberta Expanding OHS Proactive Inspection Program

Effective April 1, 2025, the OHS Proactive Inspection Program has been expanded to include counties/municipal districts, towns, and villages.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) expanded the Proactive Inspection Program to include counties/municipal districts, towns, and villages; the program previously only included cities.

Each year, OHS proactively inspects employers to monitor compliance with legislation. The Proactive Inspection Program helps work site parties identify health and safety hazards and mitigation measures. OHS chooses employers and sectors with:

  • Relatively high injury and illness rates
  • High frequency of incidents
  • Emerging trends

The Alberta Municipal Health and Safety Association (AMHSA) has created an informational document providing details regarding the expansion of the program. The Government of Alberta has also developed resources for what workers and employers can expect before, during, and after an OHS inspection.

AHMSA is partnering with OHS to host an informational session with opportunity for Q&A. Join AMHSA’s newsletter to stay informed about event details and registration.
