FRIAA Accepting Applications for Community Fireguard Program

Municipalities can apply for funding for various activities related to fireguards

The Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA) is accepting requests for proposals for Phase 1 of their Community Fireguard Program (CFP). The purpose of the CFP is to support the provincial FireSmart program by funding the construction of community fireguards that provide enhanced public safety and improved protection of at-risk communities. The CFP would consider activities such as:

  • Planning of fireguards (e.g. design, technical review, mapping, etc.)
  • Vegetation/fuel management
  • Public education
  • Inter-agency cooperation and cross-training
  • Legislation and planning

For additional information, FRIAA is hosting a virtual information session on August 20 at 10:00 am. Applications for the CFP are due at 4:00 pm on September 13, 2024.
