Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Rural Election Priorities Released

Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) releases rural priorities for upcoming 2019 federal election

As the 2019 federal election approaches, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is calling on all federal parties to commit to building a “rural lens” into their platforms. Rural issues matter to all Canadians and it is important for the federal government to bring rural realities to the table and modernize federal tools to empower rural communities to thrive.

The FCM is calling on four major priorities:

  • Bring rural realities to the table.
  • Ensure new investments in broadband translate to reliable internet connection in rural, remote, and northern communities.
  • Modernize funding tools that rural communities rely on.
  • Promote rural economic development, in partnership with local leaders.
