Discover what’s happening at the Spring 2017 Convention

The AAMDC Spring 2017 Convention, scheduled for March 20-22, is keeping staff busy with preparations for what is sure to be another great event.

The trade show will kick things off on March 20 with 156 booths featuring approved suppliers, government agencies, and a variety of other companies and organizations. AAMDC will have staff on hand to showcase our Trade Division, Advocacy department, Jubilee Insurance and PFA.

The convention program is packed on Tuesday, March 21 with keynote speaker comedian Erica Sigurdsonand plenary addresses from the Ministers of Municipal Affairs, Justice and Solicitor General, and Economic Development and Trade.  At this date we have not heard back from the Minister of Environment and Parks, but we have asked her to speak as well. Presentations from CAPP and the president of FCM are also happening on this day.

The resolution session will run in the afternoon followed by workshops, including:

  • Understanding the New Mandate: The Alberta Ombudsman and Municipalities
  • Getting Your Feet Wet: Municipalities and Wetlands
  • We’ve Got Your Back: A Municipality’s Guide to Insurance

This year’s convention will wrap-up Wednesday, March 22 with a plenary on the Federal Species at Risk Act and the presentation from the Board Governance Review Committee, the Ministerial Forum, and the MLA luncheon.

There are a number of social events taking place during convention that provide valuable networking opportunities for convention delegates. On Monday, March 20 visit the Aggregated Business Services Open House to network with approved suppliers, and be sure to stop by the Brownlee LLP hospitality suite. The Municipal Affairs open house will be on Tuesday, March 21 as well as the WSP social evening, and FortisAlberta’s hospitality suite.
