The survey results will help inform the work of RMA’s Quasi-Judicial Agencies Committee
The RMA has formed a Quasi-Judicial Agencies Member Committee to investigate the municipal role in the approval processes undertaken by the Alberta Energy Regulator, Alberta Utilities Commissions, and Natural Resources Conservation Board. The purpose of the committee is to provide a rural municipal perspective on the boards’ processes in approving certain provincially-regulated developments, the impacts of such developments on rural municipalities and other landowners, and the role (or lack thereof) of municipalities in such approval processes.
On June 6, 2023, the RMA sent a survey link to the mayors, reeves, and CAOs of all full member municipalities to gather input on member experiences in interacting with quasi-judicial agencies. A strong survey response will be crucial to ensuring that the committee is able to capture the perspectives, feedback, and local experiences of municipalities on this issue.
The survey will be open until July 11, 2023. The RMA requests that responses be limited to one per municipality. Any questions about the survey can be directed to committee chair and District 1 Director Jason Schneider at jschneider@RMAlberta.com or RMA Policy Advisor Karrina Jung at karrina@RMAlberta.com.
