The Government of Alberta has announced the extension of the Community Aggregate Payment Levy Regulation until 2029.
The Community Aggregate Payment Levy (CAP Levy) Regulation was introduced in 2006 and enables municipalities to impose a CAP Levy on a shipment of sand and gravel, based on a uniform levy rate of up to a maximum of $0.40 per tonne, at the pit from which the material was extracted.
The Government of Alberta has announced that the CAP Levy Regulation will be extended without changes until December 31, 2029. The regulation had been set to expire at the end of 2024. RMA engaged with members throughout the summer to better understand how the CAP Levy is working in their communities and is pleased to see that there are no changes to the Regulation that will negatively impact municipalities.
