Cannabis Legalization Resources and Update

Alberta Cannabis Secretariat has been officially disbanded

The official cannabis legalization date is October 17, 2018, and the work of the Alberta Cannabis Secretariat is now complete as legislation and regulations are now in place. RMA worked closely with the Secretariat over the past year to ensure the rural municipal perspective was heard during consultations and we would like to thank them for their hard work on this challenging file.

RMA has developed a page of resources to help municipalities in their efforts to make the changes necessary for cannabis legalization. Resources include a guide to cannabis legalization by FCM, webinars and presentations on amending land use bylaws and regulating public consumption, and much more. To view the resource page, click here. RMA continues to monitor and advocate for clarity on issues such as how the Government of Alberta will share excise tax revenues, and regulations for edibles and cannabis lounges.
