Canadian Women in Local Leadership Project Grants Now Available

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities is providing funding for initiatives that support women’s participation in local leadership

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is continuing to foster gender parity and more diversity in municipal government through the Canadian Women in Local Leadership (CanWILL) program.  The CanWILL project includes four core objectives:

  • Strengthening the capacity of women to run for elected office
  • Creating a more conducive context for women leaders to thrive
  • Enhancing the capacity of municipal stakeholders to address gender-based violence and harassment
  • Mobilizing knowledge and sharing best practices across municipalities

FCM is now accepting applications for CanWILL’s Inclusive Community Initiatives (ICI) fund, which will provide an opportunity for 10 to 12 communities to receive up to $10,000 in funding. To be eligible, initiatives must be implemented by local governments, individually or in partnership with local community groups, and activities are expected to begin by September 2022.

FCM is hosting a free virtual information session on Tuesday, May 10, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm MT, for those interested in learning more about the CanWILL project and this grant opportunity. Registration is required in advance.

The deadline to apply for funding is June 10, 2022. To obtain complete application details, please email women@fcm.ca.

CanWILL is implemented in partnership with FCM’s membership, provincial and territorial associations, as well as key national partners and local stakeholders. It is funded by the federal government through Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE).
