Applications Now Open for the Ethnocultural Grant and Anti-Racism Grant Programs

The Government of Albert has opened applications for the Ethnocultural Grant and Anti-Racism Grant Programs

In December 2023, the Government of Alberta separated the Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Grant program into two new programs: the Ethnocultural Grant program and the Anti-Racism Grant program. This change will help to better support diversity, inclusion, and multicultural efforts in the province. Budget 2023 allocated $8 million over three years for the Ethnocultural Grant program and $1.5 million over three years for the Anti-Racism Grant program.

The Ethnocultural Grant program is intended to support community organizations to implement initiatives that build diverse, inclusive, and welcoming multicultural communities. Additionally, the program will support Indigenous communities to celebrate and build on their rich historical heritage.

The following Alberta-based organizations can apply for grant funding:

  • Non-profit organizations or Indigenous government, tribal council, band council, settlement, and not-for-profit Indigenous organizations.
  • Universities, colleges, or institutes, as defined under Alberta’s Post-Secondary Learning Act.
  • Arms-length municipal or municipal district affiliated organizations may apply in partnership with an Indigenous and ethnocultural organization.

Further information on the Ethnocultural Grant program can be found online.

The Anti-Racism Grant Program is intended to support community organizations in Alberta to implement initiatives that combat discrimination and address systemic racism by providing funding for projects that increase public education and enable Albertans to recognize and value cultural differences and heritage.

The following Alberta-based organizations can apply for grant funding:

  • Organizations must be based in Alberta and be a non-profit organization; or Indigenous government, tribal council, band council, settlement, or not-for-profit Indigenous organization.
  • Universities, colleges, or institutes, as defined under Alberta’s Post-Secondary Learning Act; for-profit organizations; and arms-length municipal or municipal district affiliated organizations may apply in partnership with an Indigenous or ethnocultural organization.

Further information on the Anti-Racism Grant program can be found online.

The program funds for each grant are not designed to address access to affordable housing, job opportunities, or healthcare. Rather, the funds are intended to educate about cultural diversity and inclusion in Alberta.

Both grant programs are currently open for applications.
