Alberta Screen Industry Wants to Hear Your Opinion

Alberta Screen Industry presents a collective voice on behalf of all Alberta’s screen industry stakeholders in advocating for competitive provincial screen industry incentive programs, with the common goal of restoring the sustainability and growth of the film industry.

In January 2020, the Government of Alberta introduced the Film and Television Tax Credit, which is part of the government’s commitment to grow Alberta’s cultural industries by 25% or $1.5 billion over the next 10 years. The tax credit targets projects with medium to large budgets and will support the production and labour costs, up to a maximum of $10 million per project in Alberta. The budget for the tax credit will be:

  • $15 million in 2020 – 2021
  • $30 million in 2021 – 2022
  • $45 million in 2022 – 2023

The Alberta Screen Industry believes that the film industry provides Albertans with an opportunity to diversify the economy. The film industry in Alberta contributed the following to Alberta’s economy in 2018:

  • $336.28 billion in gross domestic product
  • direct, indirect, and induced labour impact in Alberta of $98 million
  • 5,350 direct and full-time equivalent jobs

The Alberta Screen Industry would like to hear any feedback from rural municipalities on:

  • the role rural municipalities can play in supporting the growth of Alberta’s film industry
  • the level of interest rural municipalities have to engage directly with Alberta Screen Industry
