Utility Operator - Permanent, Full time
Salary Range - $32.34 – 38.61/hr.(40hrs./week)
Key Responsibilities Include:
Reporting to the Environmental Services Manager, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the water/wastewater/storm utility system.
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
Ensure the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the water treatment and distribution system
Ensure the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the wastewater collection system
Ensure the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the storm water system
Responsible for meeting all Federal and Provincial Legislative Regulations
Responsible for reporting data analysis to multiple stakeholders and agencies
Ensure quality control and standard method practices are being utilized in order to ensure the production of safe drinking water and environmentally acceptable wastewater effluent.
Oversee contracted service participation in utility projects
Professionally interacting with all internal and external customers and stakeholders
Efficiently plan all required daily activities while ensuring that priorities in safety and compliance are being met at all times.
Investigation and documentation of any/all concerns regarding water/wastewater/storm system management
Evaluate and advise on all new operation systems
Must stay current with all new technologies, standard methods and legal requirement
Provide back up support to Public Works as required
Responsible for upgrading education as required by employer
Participation on the on-call rotation
Repair and maintenance of specific job related equipment, structures etc.
Must be willing and able to obtain the highest level of certification allowable by AEP in water treatments, water distribution, and wastewater collection for the Towns Utilities
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12 / GED or Equivalent
Minimum 4 years of experience in a class 2 or higher wastewater collections / water distribution/
Minimum 3 years of experience level 1 water treatment system
Attained certificates in Level 2 Wastewater Collection, Level 2 Water distribution and Level 1 Water treatment
Successful completion of a post-secondary program or degree in Water and Wastewater, Science, Environmental Studies, Engineering, or Hydrogeology, will be considered an asset.
Ability to read and comprehend schematics / blueprints / manuals / engineers drawings/ approvals
Ability to multitask / diversify and provide concise, accurate reporting on a timely basis
Ability to communicate professionally verbally / electronically/ and in written form
Ability to meet deadlines and work both independently and within a team environment
Ability to make decisions under pressure
Ability to train / supervise staff
Ability to operate equipment, and clean drivers abstract
Either possess or willing to obtain Q Endorsement, and Class 3,
Ability to install water meter devises and related equipment
A intermediate knowledge of general mechanical practices
Ability to forecast inventory requirements/ troubleshoot
Ability to interpret and maintain approvals and Provincial and Federal regulatory requirements
Criminal Records check
WHMIS, Fire Extinguisher training will be considered an asset
Trench Safety, Confined Spaces
TDG - Transportation of Dangerous Goods will be considered an asset
Arc Flash training will be considered an asset
Drinking water safety plan will be considered an asset
Good Public Relations and Conflict resolution skills
