Utilities Operator 4

The City of Camrose is seeking an energetic and reliable individual for the full-time permanent position of Operator 4 in the utilities section of the Public Works department. Reporting to the Manager of Utilities, this position will be involved in the day to day operations and maintenance of the City’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems and facilities. Water distribution and wastewater collection will be the positions primary areas of discipline with the ability to learn water and wastewater treatment systems. This is a unionized position under CUPE Local 1425 and is inclusive of a trial period as per the Article 12.05 of the Collective Agreement.

HOURS OF WORK: Hours of work are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Shift work, on-call and overtime will also be necessary to address operational requirements.

HOURLY WAGE: $31.03 per hour in accordance with CUPE 1425 Collective Agreement, plus any additional premium pay as outlined in the collective agreement.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Assist in the repair and maintenance of water mains, sanitary and storm sewers, fire hydrants, station checks, station maintenance, sanitary sewer cleaning, sewer manhole inspections, sanitary sewer root control program, excavation and repair of broken sanitary sewer mains, water mains and services, operate the water truck, valve operations, UDF program, cc valve operations, distribution laboratory and field testing, sanitary sewer laboratory and field testing, lagoon weed and vegetation control, meter reading and meter service work (installations, account read-outs and problem troubleshooting).

Operations and maintenance of the Utilities System as directed.

Lead tool box meetings and provide formal hazard assessments.

Supervise and direct daily work of other employees.

Assistance with other City operation functions as necessary and assigned.

Requirements:

Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.

Water & Wastewater Technical Program and or Post-Secondary Education.

A minimum of two of the following Alberta Environment Level III Certifications: Water Distribution, Water Treatment, Wastewater Collection, Wastewater Treatment. May consider Level II Certification with the ability to complete Level III Certification within the first year of employment.

Minimum five (5) years’ experience in utilities and infrastructure maintenance.

Awareness of the City of Camrose Alberta Environment Approvals.

Must be able to work in confined spaces, trenches, elevated platforms, ladders, and extreme weather conditions.

Basic computer literacy to operate meter reading computer software.

Must be able to meet the City’s on-call protocols and participate in the on-call rotation detailed in the Collective Agreement and as assigned for the Utilities team.

Reliable with a strong work ethic, with sound decision-making and communication skills.

Ability to exert moderate physical activity.

Valid Class 3 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with air brake endorsement.
