We are seeking an experienced professional to join our team as Transport Officer III (Community Peace Officer Level 1) serving the Special Areas of rural Alberta. This is not a traditional enforcement position. The primary focus of the role is protecting and preserving Special Areas transportation infrastructure through commercial vehicle enforcement, road-use compliance, permit coordination, load restriction enforcement, and public education. SAB Transport Officers serve as a visible presence across our extensive rural road network, working directly with commercial carriers, agricultural producers, industry partners, government agencies, and the public to promote safe and responsible road use. Much of the work takes place in the field, travelling throughout Special Areas 2, 3, and 4, conducting patrols, monitoring compliance, and protecting the roads and infrastructure that support our communities and economy.

Key Responsibilities

• Protect Special Areas road infrastructure through the enforcement of road-use regulations, seasonal load restrictions, permitting requirements, and applicable Ministerial Orders.
• Coordinate commercial vehicle permitting, approved routing, compliance monitoring, and transportation enforcement activities. Contribute to the development of enforcement procedures, operational improvements, and service delivery initiatives.
• Patrol road networks to identify compliance issues and promote safe road use practices, investigate complaints and enforcement matters within the Appointment authority and take appropriate action. Issue warnings, violation tickets, summonses, and offence notices where appropriate. Prepare investigative reports, legal documentation, court briefs, and provide testimony in court when required.
• Assist with the protection of Special Areas parks, facilities, infrastructure, and public lands as operationally required.

Requirements

• Certification: Eligibility for appointment as a Level 1 Community Peace Officer through Alberta Justice and Solicitor General. Five (5) years of prior Peace Officer experience & Two (2) years in a supervisory role are required.
• Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with provincial statutes, MRF, ROADS, and other enforcement-related systems; completion of accredited peace officer training, certifications in Defensive Baton, OC Spray, and shotgun use.
• Critical Skills: Strong conflict resolution, time management, and communication skills are essential. Must demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, and sound judgment in complex or sensitive situations.
• Physical Requirements: Must meet the physical demands of the role, including a VALID PARE test.
• Other Requirements: Be available for shift work and on-call duties and be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. This is a designated safety sensitive position and mandatory pre-employment drug testing is conducted.
