Summary

Comp # 30142 Transport Officer

We are seeking a skilled and motivated professional to join our enforcement team as Transport Officer II (Community Peace Officer (CPO) Level 1) serving the Special Areas of rural Alberta. This position is well-suited to individuals who are confident working independently, comfortable in remote environments, and experienced in road-use and transportation enforcement. This role is ideal for candidates who value professionalism, sound judgment, and community engagement, and who are motivated by meaningful work that directly supports rural infrastructure, safety, and economic activity.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct roadside and transportation enforcement, and patrol, including commercial vehicle compliance and weight and dimension monitoring. Serve as a highly visible and trusted presence across our rural communities. Protect public lands and Special Areas parks through foot and boat patrols, as operationally required. Respond to public inquiries and concerns and represent the Special Areas Board professionally in court proceedings. This role is unique – In the Special Areas, our Transport Officers (CPO’s) do not enforce municipal bylaws. Instead, the main focus is on provincial legislation, road safety, Municipal Orders and protecting public lands and infrastructure. This role is ideal for officers who thrive in remote rural environments, enjoy independent work, and bring experience or interest in transport and road-use enforcement.

Requirements

• Certification: Eligibility for appointment as a Level 1 Community Peace Officer through Alberta Justice and Solicitor General. Three (3) years of prior Peace Officer experience is preferred. Related experience in enforcement, security, public safety, park patrols, or municipal enforcement is an asset.
• Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with provincial statutes, MRF, ROADS, and other enforcement-related systems; completion of accredited peace officer training, certifications in Defensive Baton, OC Spray, and shotgun use.
• Critical Skills: Strong conflict resolution, time management, and communication skills are essential. Must demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, and sound judgment in complex or sensitive situations.
• Physical Requirements: Must meet the physical demands of the role, including a VALID PARE test.
• Other Requirements: No criminal record, be available for shift work and on-call duties and be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
