Located within the Edmonton Metropolitan Region, Beaumont offers the opportunity to lead municipal parks operations in a dynamic and community-focused environment.

The infrastructure department is seeking a Team Lead, Parks to oversee the daily maintenance and operations of municipal parks, green spaces, sports fields, Clear Water Cemetery, and seasonal amenities. In this role, you will provide leadership to Parks staff, coordinate contractors, support special events, and ensure service levels are delivered safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Key Responsibilities

What YOU’RE Responsible for:
Leading Daily Parks Operations

  • Planning, organizing, scheduling, and monitoring daily maintenance activities across parks, sports fields, playgrounds, cemetery grounds, and public green spaces
  • Supervising full-time and seasonal staff, including hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and promoting a strong team culture
  • Overseeing contractors to ensure safety, quality control, and compliance with contract requirements
  • Coordinating equipment and fleet maintenance in collaboration with the Fleet Coordinator
  • Supporting special events through setup, staffing coordination, traffic control, and site maintenance
  • Monitoring weather conditions and responding to after-hours or emergency situations as required

Service Delivery & Community Engagement

  • Investigating and responding to service requests from residents, contractors, and internal departments
  • Providing clear, professional communication — including education and de-escalation when necessary
  • Maintaining detailed records and ensuring timely closure of service requests
  • Review and provide comments on park and trail components of various residential and commercial applications, ranging from high level documents such as Area Structure Plans to detailed civil engineering drawings

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Leading the implementation of the City’s Health & Safety Program, including Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA), inspections, and incident reporting
  • Ensuring staff adhere to safety standards and wear appropriate PPE
  • Conducting playground safety inspections (CAN/CSA-Z614) and ensuring public-facing amenities are safe and compliant
  • Supporting contractor safety oversight and compliance

Operational Planning & Budget Support

  • Assisting with budget planning and monitoring expenditures within approved operating and capital budgets
  • Strategically allocating staff, equipment, and contractor resources to meet service levels
  • Procuring materials and supplies in alignment with budget and operational needs
  • Providing technical input on access permits and operational projects

Requirements

What You Bring:

  • Minimum 4 years of related experience, including supervisory or leadership experience
  • Minimum 2 years of post-secondary education (equivalencies will be considered)
  • Clean Criminal Records Check
  • Strong knowledge of parks and recreation operations, equipment, arboriculture, horticulture, and turf maintenance
  • Experience with equipment operation and maintenance
  • Sound understanding of Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Act, safety legislation, and best practices
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and operational software
  • Valid Criminal Record Check

Certifications (Must have or be willing to obtain within the first 18 months of employment):

  • Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Q endorsement and clean driver’s abstract
  • CAN/CSA-Z614 Playground Safety
  • Pesticide Applicator Certification
  • SAGA and Powered Mobile Equipment Operator certifications (including Loader, Grader, Backhoe, Skid Steer, Excavator, MEWP, Fall Protection, etc.)

Assets:

  • Previous supervisory experience for Safety Excellence (LSE)
  • Parks and Sports Field Operator
  • Arboriculture Canada courses or horticulture-related credentials
  • Turf Science Certificate (Level 1 and 2)
  • Utility and Equipment Operator certifications
  • Turf Management from Sports Turf Canada
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Courses
  • Advanced Certificate of Leadership
  • Landscape Horticulturist Apprenticeship or Horticulture Technologist Diploma
  • Municipal (City Works) experience

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, climbing, and operating equipment
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and participation in an on-call rotation
