Summary

County of Barrhead is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead their CPO Program.  This position reports directly to the CAO, and through their extensive knowledge and experience will provide leadership and supervision while supporting daily enforcement operations and ensuring compliance with the Alberta Public Security Peace Officer Program Standards. This position is also expected to support the DEM with the Emergency Management Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, supervision, guidance and coaching to other CPO.
  • Review reports, policy, procedures and ensure overall compliance within the Enforcement Services Department.
  • Provide regular reports to municipal Council and complete reporting as required by Alberta Public Safety and Emergency Services.
  • Enforcement of municipal bylaw and provincial statutes, including the execution of arrest warrants, vehicle seizures, and other related duties.
  • Assist the DEM with regular review and development of the Municipal Emergency Management Program and the ongoing hazard identification and risk assessment.
  • Liaise and collaborate with RCMP, Crown Prosecutor, other provincial or municipal resources or agencies and other County departments.

Requirements

  • Must meet all requirements of Alberta Public Security Peace Officer Program to obtain a Level 1 CPO appointment.
  • Minimum 5 years experience directly related to enforcement, with 2-years of supervisory experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of municipal bylaws, provincial legislation, and court and legal processes.
  • Strong decision-making, conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with 5-year clean drivers abstract.
  • Must provide a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check conducted by the RCMP.
  • Possess a valid PARE on the date of hire.
  • Proficient with a variety of computer programs and systems such as MS Office suite, ROAD/MOVES, JOIN, CPIC, GIS
  • Valid certification/training in the following areas is considered an asset – First Aid and CPR “C”, EVOC, TDG, RADAR/LIDAR, OC Spray, Extendible Baton, Shotgun, ICS 100 and ICS 200.
