Summary

The 9-week Summer Events Leader’s main duty is to assist with providing quality summer programs for Sturgeon County children/youth. There are 4 positions active from June 22 to August 21, 2026.

Key Responsibilities

Summer Programs Assistance (85%)

  • Assists with the implementation and evaluation of a traveling rural summer programs including Theme Days, Day Trips, Park n’ Plays, Free Summer Bonus Days, and Community Engagements
  • Provides active and supportive involvement in all programs and planned activities.
  • Ensures that an effective and professional working relationships with fellow staff, children, parents, and volunteers is maintained.
  • Ensures that all program locations used are kept clean and secure as well as safe for program activities.
  • Ensures that an effective relation with fellow staff, children, parents, and volunteers is maintained.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports as required by their supervisor (i.e., accident reports, daily time sheets, program statistics, final program reports, etc.)
  • Prepares crafts and activities for summer programs.
  • May be required to assist with online or alternative programming based on need.

Volunteer Training and Evaluation (5%)

  • Assists with training and evaluation of volunteers in the Job Experience Training (JET) program.
  • Ensures that an effective and professional working relationships with fellow staff and volunteers is maintained.

Other Related Duties (10%)

  • Attends scheduled staff meetings, complete a mid and final evaluation on self and co-workers.
  • Attends training sessions and workshops as required.
  • Adheres to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.

Requirements

Required:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent.
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check is required as well as a Child Welfare Intervention Check.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Previous experience working with children and youth in a program setting.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with others and alone with little or no supervision.
  • Punctuality, self-motivation, open communication, and ability to take direction well and respond to public inquiries in a calm and friendly manner.

Assets:

  • Post-secondary education in recreation, education or another related field would be an asset.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
