Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development, this position will be responsible for the coordination of the Town’s activities related to development, and issuance of development and building permits. As the Senior Development Officer, you will establish and maintain positive and constructive relations with the public served, as well as, liaise with the public, developers, external agencies, and other Town departments for new community development projects and site specific development proposals.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Responsible for the interpretation and maintenance of the Town’s Land Use Bylaw to ensure it is current, functional, effective, and in accordance with the Town’s Statutory Plans.
Provides guidance to the Planning and Development Department on development and building permits to ensure conformity with the Land Use Bylaw and the Town’s Quality Management Plan.
Prepares and presents written reports and recommendations as required for discretionary use and variance applications, bylaw amendments, Municipal Planning Commission meetings, Subdivision and Development Appeal Board hearings, and Direct Control applications to Council.
Processing and review of subdivision and road closure applications, including preparation of administrative report and presentation of recommendations to the Development Authority for approval in compliance with the Land Use Bylaw and Municipal Government Act. Responsible for all notifications, circulations, advertising, supporting documents, and recommendation for endorsement once all conditions are met.
Responsible for the evaluation of development proposals in collaboration with other members of the team.
Review and approve development and building permits, and operate within the Land Use Bylaw as a Development Officer.
Compile information and conduct research on various projects, bylaws, policies, municipal best practices, etc. ensuring that relevant departmental Bylaws are up-to-date and effective. Makes recommendations for amendments where required.
The Town of Whitecourt offers a progressive working environment, a comprehensive benefit plan, and Local Authorities Pension Plan. The salary range for this position is currently $ 79,637 to $ 96,890 per year.
