As the Marketing & Communications Strategist, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the voice and presence of the RMA while sharing our mission of strengthening Alberta’s rural communities. This dynamic role supports all divisions of the RMA, crafting impactful strategies and showcasing services that empower Alberta’s 69 counties, municipal districts, and specialized municipalities. Whether advocating for strong local governments, promoting comprehensive insurance and group benefits, or highlighting cooperative procurement through Canoe, your work will amplify the services that strengthen and support rural Alberta.

Key Responsibilities

This position will play a key role in advancing the RMA’s marketing and communications initiatives, with responsibilities spanning both marketing, communications and curating our digital experience, as indicated below. You will work closely with internal teams to develop and execute strategies that elevate the RMA’s digital presence and messaging, ensuring alignment with the association’s goals. Your role will involve engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and contributing to the success of our communication efforts across multiple channels. This is an in-office role at our Nisku office.

Marketing & Communications:

  • Develop and implement marketing and communications strategies that align with the goals of the RMA and its divisions
  • Create engaging written content for a variety of channels, including social media, newsletters, blogs and long-form content, infographics, and other digital formats, ensuring alignment with RMA’s messaging and brand voice
  • Provide strong communications support across all RMA divisions, tailoring messaging to meet diverse audience needs
  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize the performance of marketing campaigns to drive effectiveness
  • Handle confidential member and association information with professionalism and discretion
  • Maintain and enhance the RMA’s digital presence while upholding brand standards
  • Manage third-party relationships for marketing and communications support, including external advertising, web design, and development, ensuring collaboration and alignment with RMA’s goals
  • Support event communications by creating and coordinating digital and print materials, promotional content, and other collateral to ensure cohesive messaging and a strong event presence
  • Support the General Manager, Marketing & Communications with media relations as needed, including preparing briefing materials

Digital Experience:

  • Develop and implement marketing and communications strategies that align with the goals of RMA and its divisions
  • Collaborate as part of the Marketing & Communications Department to set and achieve the association’s objectives
  • Oversees the RMA’s house of brands, website, and social media roadmap, managing tight deadlines and executing impactful, share-worthy campaigns both online and offline to elevate our public image
  • Work with internal stakeholders to develop, post, and maintain web-based content to the association’s official websites
  • Work collaboratively with the Visual Communications Designers to create and layout webpages, e-newsletter templates, social media content, and other interactive visual elements, ensuring they adhere to and strengthen the association’s clean and professional brand
  • Council with internal stakeholders on the web implications of software integration
  • Update and backup website CMS data
  • Provide staff and member frontend website support as needed
  • Work with internal stakeholders to develop, post, and maintain web-based content to the association’s social media channels
  • Develop monthly content schedules for social media posts that balance the needs and interests of internal stakeholders and engage our external audiences
  • Collaborate with internal clients to develop regular e-newsletters written for the association’s membership and other key audiences
  • Monitor, maintain, and moderate the association’s official social media channels and other online accounts
  • Prepare and present analytical web, social media, and newsletter reports

Other

  • Work in a team environment, cross-trained to back up other positions as required. As such tasks will be assigned from time to time to first learn all department staff roles and secondly back up those duties
  • Collaborate positively with colleagues across divisions to deliver high-quality work under shifting priorities
  • Other duties as required

Requirements

Scope

  • A post-secondary designation in marketing, digital marketing, communications, or a related discipline, with 3 – 5 years of professional digital marketing & communications experience. Other combinations of training and experience may also be considered
  • Proven experience in marketing, communications, or digital media strategy
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (CMS); and ensuring an optimal user experience. Understanding of the WordPress theme development process would be an asset
  • Familiarity with online e-newsletter services like Mailchimp would be considered an asset
  • Professional experience in managing official social media channels
  • Familiar with online data measurement, especially Google Analytics
  • A team-oriented mindset and a collaborative approach to problem-solving

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent English language written and verbal communication skills; familiarity with Canadian English written standards would be an asset
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills
  • Personable and able to build and maintain professional relationships
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Able to work in a team environment, including keeping others appropriately informed
  • Managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Understanding that progress must be shown and be measurable
  • Able to work with minimal supervision; self-motivated and self-directed
  • Experience with digital photography and / or videography would be an asset
  • Some knowledge and appreciation of rural issues would be an asset
