Summary

The Town of Stony Plain is seeking an experienced and community‑focused Manager of Parks and Roads to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of all municipal parks, open spaces, trail networks, and road operations. Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the General Manager of Planning & Infrastructure, the Manager of Parks and Roads oversees the maintenance, operation, and enhancement of the Town’s roads, traffic systems, parks, green spaces, and trails. This role provides leadership to a dedicated team, ensures service excellence, and drives continuous improvement through long‑term planning, asset management, and operational innovation. The Manager will work closely with internal departments, regional partners, contractors, and the community to ensure high standards of safety, service quality, and environmental stewardship.

We are seeking a candidate who:

  • Demonstrates strong, collaborative leadership with proven experience coaching, mentoring, and inspiring diverse teams.
  • Excels in employee development, performance management, and fostering a positive workplace culture.
  • Has comprehensive operational knowledge of municipal roads, snow & ice control, parks maintenance, irrigation systems, trail management, and related infrastructure.
  • Is skilled in managing complex operating and capital budgets, procurement processes, contract oversight, and long‑term asset management planning.
  • Can effectively oversee the delivery of municipal services while improving efficiencies, implementing new processes, and supporting organizational change.
  • Communicates clearly and confidently with staff, senior leadership, Council, regional partners, contractors, and the public.
  • Possesses strong decision‑making, problem‑solving, and conflict‑resolution abilities, especially in fast‑paced operational settings.
  • Understands relevant legislation, bylaws, OHS requirements, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
  • Builds strong relationships internally and externally, collaborating across departments and with regional municipalities.
  • Brings professionalism, adaptability, and a commitment to service excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

  • A related post‑secondary degree in fields such as Business Administration, Engineering, Technology, Environment, or a similar discipline.
  • 7–10 years of progressive supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Proven experience successfully managing operating and capital budgets, preferably within a municipal or comparable public‑sector environment.
  • Experience leading teams in operational settings involving roads, parks, or public works is strongly
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered

Asset Qualifications:

  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or related certification
  • Certified Public Works Professional Designation
  • Asset Management training
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Designation
  • Incident Command System (ICS 200) or above
