The County of Wetaskiwin is seeking a Legislative Clerk to provide administrative support to the Assistant Chief Administrative Officer and the Department, including Bylaw Management, Petitions, along with research and development of special projects, studies and reports. The Legislative Clerk will also be appointed as Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Coordinator and act as Clerk to the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (SDAB).
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Participate in the interpretation of relevant Municipal or Provincial Policy and regulations and the formulation of the County's response to changes in legislation.
- Monitor and review legislative / regulatory changes and ensure they are conveyed to the appropriate County Departments for review and information.
- Coordinate and maintain the Strategic & Tactical Plan (Cascade).
- Research and carry out special projects, studies and reports as assigned.
- Provide back up support to the Executive Assistant for meetings, Council Presentations, Requests for Decision, attending meetings and transcribing minutes.
- Act as Clerk to the Subdivision & Development Appeal Board.
- Meeting Management – prepare agendas, attend meetings, transcribe minutes and ensure follow up is completed for the Subdivision Development & Appeal Board and Intermunicipal Collaboration Frameworks.
- Assist with preparing, updating, researching, and maintaining Bylaws.
- Act as Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Coordinator with processing requests relative to the FOIP Act.
- Act as Deputy Returning Officer and assist in the planning of elections.
Requirements:
- Five years of municipal government experience or related field.
- Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with the ability to problem solve.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, with a focus on proof-reading.
- Committed to a strong and team oriented corporate culture, showing flexibility, adaptability, dependability.
- Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Diploma or degree in public administration, business administration or related field.
- Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, Local Authorities Election Act and the Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act.
- Certificate in Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act.
- Have or willing to obtain Commissioner for Oaths (internal/external).
