Position Summary

Lac La Biche County is seeking a dynamic and experienced Inspector, Enforcement Services to lead and oversee the delivery of enforcement programs and services. Reporting to the General Manager, Protective Services, this role is responsible for ensuring high-quality service delivery, providing strong leadership, and resolving complex, often sensitive issues involving competing priorities.

The Inspector plays a key role in fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and exceptional customer service within the Enforcement Services Department.

Key Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

Leadership

  • Provide direction, supervision, and mentorship to a diverse enforcement team, including:
    • Community Peace Officers (3)
    • School Resource Officer (1)
    • Bylaw Enforcement Officers (3)
    • Community Patrol Members (2)
  • Oversee staffing functions including scheduling, recruitment, performance management, and training
  • Promote a positive, proactive customer service culture
  • Collaborate with senior leaders on policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives

Administration & Budget

  • Support development and execution of the annual work plan and departmental budget
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure strong fiscal accountability
  • Administer service contracts and ensure compliance
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and file management systems

Operational Expertise

  • Provide expert advice on enforcement matters, legislation, and municipal bylaws
  • Represent the County on committees, boards, and interdepartmental projects
  • Review investigative files and liaise with Alberta Justice and Solicitor General
  • Respond to high-risk incidents and provide leadership during critical situations
  • Support emergency management and municipal alerting systems
  • Coordinate post-incident debriefs and mental health supports for staff

Requirements

What You Bring

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Police Foundations, Criminal Law, or a related field
  • 5–7 years of related experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory role.  Experience as an RCMP or Community Peace Officer is preferred.
  • Completion of the Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Program (or eligibility for appointment in Alberta)

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of municipal enforcement, legislation, and public sector operations
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and sound judgment in sensitive situations
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications

Working Environment

  • Combination of office, field, and remote work
  • Exposure to high-pressure situations, including confrontations and emergency response
  • Flexibility required for after-hours and emergency call-outs

 

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to County policies, FOIP requirements, and records management practices

Position details:

  • Permanent full-time position
  • On site location: Lac La Biche, Alberta (must be willing to relocate)
  • Days/Hours:  Based on 1820 hours annually with a 7 hour workday, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional hours may be required in the evenings or weekends for emergency duties or special projects.

Salary range: $119,719.60 to 154,154.00 annually ($65.78 to $84.70 hourly)
