Smoky Lake County invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Information Technology Technician (IT). Reporting to the Finance Manager, the IT Technician will manage and provide maintenance of hardware & software, training, consultation, and recommendations for continuous improvement to the County’s Information Systems.
Position Summary: This full-time, permanent position will require the incumbent to occasionally work on weekends, and evenings. The position requires a competent, self-motivated individual who will provide network administration and systems management services, including individual support with computer hardware and software, both on-site and off.
The position offers a competitive salary, excellent benefit package, and company matched Pension Plan. Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8 am – 4 pm as well as evenings and/or weekends as required. This position is primarily in-person at the Smoky Lake County Main Office in Smoky Lake.

Installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades of:
Works stations, printers, photocopiers
Communication equipment including VOIP Phone system, cellular mobile devices, and tablets
Software (Diamond Great Plains, MuniSight Geographical Information System, Microsoft, etc.)
Electronic mail systems (Microsoft exchange)
Tracking hardware inventory and preparing a replacement plan
Ensuring all systems are secure and backed up
Providing recommendations regarding hardware and software improvements and acquisitions
Overseeing project management for all IT related undertakings
Creating a capacity plan for network bandwidth, storage requirements, web sites, and other applications
Assisting staff and contractors to provide specialized technical work
Assisting with training
Providing support to offsite offices
Providing support to remote employees
Maintaining and testing server backups
College level Diploma in Computer Information Systems, Networking, or equivalent
Related Microsoft certifications would be considered an asset
Ideal candidate will have 5 years experience in a similar capacity
Class 5 driver’s license
Proven customer service skills and a high sense of urgency
Superior problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Commitment to learn and keep up with emerging technology trends and technologies
Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
Ability to troubleshoot to diagnose and resolve problems
