Summary

The IT Administrator is responsible for the overall administration, maintenance, and support of the organization’s information technology infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this role serves as the primary IT resource, providing both strategic guidance and hands on technical support to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient IT operations across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and support servers, printers, and other IT infrastructure hardware.
  • Provision and manage user accounts, and configure servers, desktops, laptops, iPad, printers, and related hardware/software.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to end users, troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for users and vendors regarding system access, performance issues, and service requests.
  • Coordinate with vendors for the repair, maintenance, and implementation of IT infrastructure, including on premises and cloud-based systems, switches, servers, and firewalls.
  • Manage IT asset inventory and software licensing, and oversee patch management, mobile device management (MDM), and endpoint/network security (including protection from malware and ransomware).
  • Administer and support LAN/WAN network infrastructure to ensure system availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Monitor and analyze server and network performance; implement corrective actions and improvements as required.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain procedures for system access, data management, backup, and disaster recovery.
  • Monitor, test, and maintain backup systems and disaster recovery processes (DRP), ensuring data integrity and recoverability.
  • Conduct server and network security audits and risk assessments; recommend and implement improvements to enhance security.
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations to the Executive Director on IT strategy, infrastructure improvements, and emerging technologies.
  • Manage and support IT related leases and services, including photocopiers, printers, and scanners.
  • Maintain and administer the Kantech security and door access system.

Ongoing Responsibilities

  • Recommend future upgrades and capital replacements for IT infrastructure.
  • Research, plan, evaluate, and recommend new and emerging technologies.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of evolving and converging technologies; recommend improvements to enhance system performance, availability, and security.
  • Lead and support IT-related projects, ensuring effective planning and implementation aligned with organizational needs.
  • Provide orientation and guidance to users on network systems and IT resources.
  • Deliver training and educational updates to staff and/or Council members as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • A minimum of a two-year technical diploma in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in an end-user/client support environment, including the installation and troubleshooting of hardware and software.
  • Experience with Microsoft desktop and server operating systems, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and SQL database administration.
  • Experience supporting Apple devices (e.g., iPhone, iPad) and Apple Business Manager.
  • Experience with server hardware (e.g., Dell, HPE) and server virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), primarily within Windows Server environments and Microsoft Intune.
  • Experience with Sophos firewalls and related network/security equipment.
  • Experience modernizing or transitioning environments to a Microsoft 365-based or cloud-first infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of network technologies and security concepts, including TCP/IP and VPNs, is considered an asset.
  • Experience with GIS systems (e.g., ESRI) is considered an asset.
  • Ability to provide a current Criminal Record Check upon date of hire.
  • Ability to provide a current 5-year driver’s abstract.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

  • Ensures all operations are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with County Policies and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.
  • Required to wear correct P.P.E as per safe job procedures.
  • Must check in as per Working Alone legislation.
  • Must follow all safe job procedures.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:15am-4:00pm
