Heavy Equipment Technician
Permanent Full Time
Monday-Friday (8:00 am-4:30 pm)
Journeyperson Preferred or Minimum 3rd Year Apprentice

Thorhild County Public Works Department is seeking a suitable individual to carry out the following duties under the direction and supervision of the Fleet Manager:

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, fire equipment, agricultural equipment, and trailers
• Diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and engine related issues
• Perform Commercial Vehicle inspections and ensure all equipment meets safety and regulatory requirements
• Inspect equipment and identify maintenance requirement proactively
• Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and repair documentation
• Assist in all duties as directed.
• Must participate in the on-call schedule on a rotational basis.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications required:

• Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician Certificate preferred or minimum 3rd Year Apprentice.
• Valid Alberta CVIP Inspection License
• Standard First Aid or willing to obtain.
• Physical ability and dexterity to perform a variety of manual tasks (heavy lifting, squatting, bending, twisting and climbing. Work may be performed with exposure to the outdoor elements.
• Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• Experience in operating various power and hand tools and various heavy equipment.
• Successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Records Check, Driver’s Abstract and Fitness to Work Assessment.

Requirements

This position is included within the scope of the County’s unionized setting (IUOE Local 955) and is based on a 40-hour work week. Hourly rate range for this position is dependent on certification or period completed ($39.14-$46.96). Applicable apprentice percentage of journeyman rate applies. Thorhild County also has a comprehensive benefits program. Current employees of Thorhild County fulfilling the requirements essential to this position shall be considered for this position.
