The Production Supervisor is responsible for supporting the technical requirements of performances and events at Festival Place. The Production Supervisor takes a lead role in equipment and infrastructure maintenance and planning that aligns with department and corporate strategic goals and service. The back of house of Festival Place is a dynamic area that requires a leader to support strategic and technical planning, effective operations and artistic excellence, all whilst ensuring the operational and safety standards of the venue are upheld behind the scenes.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for the delivery of performances and events to ensure coordination of consistent, effective, safe and efficient programs and services
  • Review technical requirements of shows and rentals to determine additional staff, resources or equipment required
  • Assist with building operations and establish technical needs for events, source and order equipment as required to improve operational capabilities and outcomes
  • Expertly operate various sound systems, lighting systems and equipment, and performance equipment (e.g., fly system) during events using highest safety standards and best practices
  • Ensure facility is ready for special events by supervising setup and tear down of all theatre equipment required for events including audio, visual, and lighting gear, risers, theatrical sets etc.
  • Identify potential hazards in stage and theatre areas and ensure facility supervisor and safety leads are consulted on corrective measures required using approved county systems. Oversee safety practices for show installations, ensuring safety regulations are understood by staff, performers, renters, and clients
  • Liaise with Guest Experience Team Lead to ensure effective coordination between front and back of house service delivery to ensure alignment
  • Support Theatre Supervisor with budget planning for equipment needs as part of the Capital Equipment process
  • Perform equipment maintenance tasks in co-operation with the Technical Lead to ensure proper working order and to oversee lifecycle requirements ensuring safety standards are followed and arrange for replacement or repair where required
  • Lead procurement processes for show rights booking and associated administrative processes, including licensing requirements, in line with approved budgets and approved processes
  • Scheduling back of house staff and contracted theatre technicians and crews, to ensure adequate staffing for performances and events that align with annual budgets and ensure efficient operations and best use of resources
  • Prepare and manage contractor agreements for back of house staff and coordinate processes for their remuneration

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in related field with a minimum of seven years’ experience in a technical operations leadership position
  • Minimum two years’ experience supervisory experience of staff or contactors in a busy and ever-changing environment
  • Minimum two years’ experience managing stage productions and their technical requirements
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others and confidently make decisions
  • Expert knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of various stage, lighting, sound, and electrical equipment associated with theatre operations (e.g., fly systems, lighting consoles, etc.) and the ability to remain current with changing technology
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and adapt to a variety of situations, exercise sound judgement, handle multiple demands, and execute work in a timely and accurate manner
  • Proficient computer skills to operate applicable programs in both a Microsoft Office and Mac environment, databases and various software platforms

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Ability to perform physical labour involving bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, moderate to heavy lifting, carrying, and repetitive motion with arms hands and wrist
  • Ability to work at heights using aerial platforms, hydraulic lifts, and ladders
