Key Responsibilities Include:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Strategic and Administrative Services, the Communications Strategist provides communications and marketing initiatives to the Town of Strathmore Municipal Building and Strathmore Commons construction project team.
The Communications Strategist provides strategic counsel in executing communication plans, including identifying opportunities, analyzing challenges and seeking creative solutions. The incumbent develops and implements marketing and communications plans, ensuring the Municipal Building and Strathmore Commons construction project communication plan is completed. The position also manages the traditional media interactions, serves as a focal point for media, responds to any communication requests regarding the new Municipal Building construction project and ensures messages are shared with an appropriate spectrum of media types.
Provide communications and marketing support to the Town of Strathmore Municipal Building and Strathmore Commons Town Hall Project Team.
Overseeing social media communications for the Municipal Building and Strathmore Commons
Writing and editing content for online and print publications, including on the Town website, and any other Community communications.
The position also writes, assembles and produces key documents for internal and external audiences including creating and managing web content, graphic design tasking, and supporting all members of the Municipal Building and Strathmore Commons project team with related communications tools as appropriate.
Undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years related experience with strategic communications planning and implementation preferably in a local government setting
Experience with social media strategies and channels
Organizational skills, ability to work under pressure and on several projects simultaneously, to prioritize, and to meet strict deadlines
Expertise in the areas of relationship building, project management and marketing strategy
Success in this position requires the following abilities: initiative, strategic and analytical thinking, clear written & verbal communication, teamwork, political acumen and customer focus
Ability to use good judgment, tact and diplomacy
Experience in producing a variety of communication vehicles aimed at various audiences
Experience writing in a journalistic style for print and online publications
Able to work collaboratively with others on the project and the Town, and to work with design, communications, and printing departments
Depending on business needs related to the project may require attending meetings outside of normal business hours
