Woodlands County is a rural municipality ~ 150 kilometres NW of Edmonton, with an area of 7,668 sq km. The County surrounds the Town of Whitecourt and includes the hamlets of Blue Ridge, Goose Lake, and Fort Assiniboine. Key Responsibilities Include:
Providing expertise to support and guide Woodlands County’s communications program and a member of the senior management team, this position facilitates the development and implementation of internal and external communications strategies and ensures strategic messaging and visual identity standards. This role is the key stakeholder for promotional materials, the County's social media presence, and acts as the Public Information Officer within the Emergency Response team.
The position is responsible for:
- Managing the County's website and social media by coordinating and implementing accurate and up to date information
- Manage media relations and public notices in accordance with the County's communications strategies and policies
- Write a variety of content for all departments and Council supporting internal, external, and public communications
- Maintain the BARCC Connect system, issuing municipal alerts and notifications in conjunction with Barrhead and area, Rural Crime Coalition
- Coordination and support of printed materials including design, editing, and production for advertising, marketing, internal use, etc.
Requirements:
- Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills
- Time management, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
- Proven knowledge of communications, marketing ethics, and best practices
- Proficient public speaking abilities are an asset
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and in a team setting
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in public relations, communications, marketing, and/or journalism
- Experience working in municipal government, comprehensive knowledge of website maintenance and web design, considered an asset
- Considerable knowledge of software applications including MS Office, Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign
- Excellent communication and public relations skills with awareness and astuteness of political matters in public administration
- Exceptional customer service skills, maintaining confidentiality and diplomacy
