Caregiver Education Coordinator

Summary

Reporting to the FCSS Assistant Manager, this is a grant-funded position that offers education and support to caregivers to increase their capacity to create safe, responsive, and nurturing environments and encourage healthy child development. This role will involve: developing and presenting workshops; liaising with local, regional, and provincial partners; offering one-on-one support to caregivers; and offering education and resources to families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and deliver group-based educational sessions to families around topics such as effective parenting, building healthy families, and supporting children’s development
  • Deliver one-on-one support to families to help them work through challenges or develop skills with resources such as the Positive Parenting Program, Kids Have Stress Too, etc.
  • Prepare information and resources to assist in the facilitation and delivery of caregiver education presentations, including research and handouts
  • Use online and social media platforms to promote healthy families, including the creation of original content
  • Work with external and internal agencies to connect with families at different public settings (e.g. events, indoor playground, schools)
  • Operate the Hinton Family Centre as required
  • Liaise with external agencies and volunteers to obtain resources, speakers, and expertise to offer additional programs and supports to families
  • Reports all minor and major accidents, problems and disturbances, incidents, and site damage to the FCSS Assistant Manager and ensure all appropriate forms are filled out accurately and completely
  • Complete, maintain, and act in compliance with safety documents (including Job Hazard Assessments, Safe Work Practices, Hazard Identification Forms, and other tools)
  • Complete and maintain confidential casework files for client contact
  • May be assigned a role within the Emergency Social Services for Disaster Services

Requirements

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certificate or training program related to human services, early childhood education, and/or facilitation
  • Education relevant to facilitation is preferred
  • Minimum 1 years of work experience working with children and families
  • Satisfactory background screening is required for this position including a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Welfare Check
  • Valid First Aid and CPR-C Certificate
  • A Class 5 Driver’s License with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

  • Knowledge of the community and challenges facing families in Hinton and area is an asset
  • Ability to deliver, plan, and organize needs assessments
  • Ability to facilitate programs, projects, and special events
  • Effective interpersonal skills and a strong customer service focus on dealing with other staff, volunteers, agencies (local and provincial), customers, and the public
  • Proven discretion with a good understanding of confidentiality requirements under existing legislation
  • Advanced communication skills, including experience in public speaking and facilitation of workshops
  • Proven time management and organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, Canva)
  • A high degree of personal initiative
  • Tolerance and understanding of differing family lifestyles and culture
  • Integrity, reliability, and diplomacy in work methods and work relationships
  • Sound judgment in a constantly evolving environment
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently
  • High energy, self-starter
