YOUR Opportunity

The Town of Crossfield is seeking an Arena and Parks Operator I to assist in the maintenance of the arena, parks and recreation/cultural facilities, helping ensure a wide variety of leisure opportunities are available for Crossfield residents. The Arena & Parks Operator II also assists the Arena Supervisor and/or the Parks & Facilities Supervisor with project planning and supervision of seasonal employees as required

Key Responsibilities

YOUR Essential Functions

Arena Operations:

  • Perform general caretaking and janitorial functions in all areas of the facility including the exterior of the building, dressing rooms, washrooms, players benches, offices, second floor loft, storage rooms and all other common areas.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and general repairs as capable and trained.
  • Operate the ice resurfacing machine, providing a well-maintained ice surface for all users of the facility.
  • May assist with duties related to the installation and removal of the ice surface as required.
  • Complete routine checks of the ice plant, HVAC systems and overall facility.
  • Ensure all entrances and exits, including emergency exits are kept clear of snow and ice.
  • Ensure the surface of the arena floor is kept clean and free of debris or hazards for spring and summer activities including lacrosse, roller hockey, roller skating, etc.
  • Provide quality and friendly customer service to facility users by answering questions, providing assistance as necessary and directing customers to the appropriate person to address concerns.
  • Assist user groups with their preparation for special events as necessary (e.g. hockey tournaments, figure skating carnival, etc.).
  • Monitor the actions of user groups and individuals to ensure their safety, the facility’s well-being and adherence to rules, policies and other regulations.
  • Keep the Arena Supervisor informed of issues or concerns that may affect arena operations.

Parks and Facility Operations:

  • Perform a wide variety of maintenance duties, including mowing, trimming, preventative maintenance and general repairs on all parks, playgrounds, park amenities, green spaces, sports fields and courts, pathways, the cemetery, etc.
  • Maintain trees, shrubs and flower beds/baskets/pots throughout all areas of Town, including watering, fertilizing, weeding, trimming/pruning, etc.
  • Assist with operation, maintenance, repairs and daily checks of the splash park.
  • Assist the Parks & Facilities Supervisor with operation, maintenance, general repairs and regular checks on Town-owned facilities including the Community Centre, Town Administrative Office, Library, etc.
  • Perform daily rounds of parks and green spaces, ensuring garbage receptacles (including doggy pots) are emptied, litter is picked up and issues/concerns are identified and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Keep parks maintenance equipment in good working order by performing regular preventative maintenance and ensuring it is kept clean.
  • Assist the Parks & Facilities Supervisor with planning and implementation of various projects.
  • Keep the Parks & Facilities Supervisor informed of issues or concerns that may affect park and/or facility operations.

Other Duties:

  • Perform other duties as requested by the Arena Supervisor, Parks & Facilities Supervisor and/or the Director of Community & Protective Services.
  • Perform all work in accordance with sound safety practices and procedures.
  • Assist the Arena Supervisor or the Parks & Facilities Supervisor in the opposite season as required (e.g. clearing snow from pathways during a large snow event in the winter).
  • Provide written reports as requested.
  • Attend daytime and evening meetings as required or requested in order to attend meetings with Town council, Town staff, user groups and other community partners.

Requirements

What YOU Bring

Education & Experience:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent (GED)
  • 1-3 years experience in arena and parks/facilities operations.
  • Arena Operator Level 1 and Level 2 certification.
  • Swimming Pool Operator Level 1 certification.
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with driver’s abstract.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
  • WHMIS 2015 certification.
  • Current criminal background with vulnerable sector check.
