About the Role

The electrical/instrumentation and control technician is responsible for maintaining automation and electrical systems reliability that support Aquatera’s water and wastewater treatment and distribution operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring system reliability, efficiency, and regulatory compliance while supporting automation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for the treatment plant’s automation and electrical systems, including PLCs, SCADA, control networks and electrical infrastructure
  • Install, maintain and troubleshoot a wide variety of instrumentation, metering devices, analyzer and control systems related to water/wastewater treatment and distribution/collection systems
  • Read, interpret and redline P&IDs and control circuit diagrams
  • Integrate SCADA software (GE iFIX) with control systems
  • Maintain PLCs, HMIs and OT network equipment including Allen-Bradley PLCs, SCADA Pack, Red Lion HMI, Siemens PLCs and other automation systems
  • Assist with documentation development and standardization initiatives
  • Participate in on call/standby schedule and respond to after-hours emergencies as required
  • Work independently and travel to remote worksites, including overnight stays when necessary
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and uphold Aquatera’s values and safety standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Journeyman instrumentation technician certificate with control systems experience
  • Journeyman electrician certificate is considered an asset
  • Experience with instrumentation and electrical controls preferred
  • SCADA and PLC experience considered an asset
  • Water/wastewater treatment experience considered an asset
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Self-motivated, organized, and safety-focused
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance best practices
  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent

Conditions of Employment

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada without limitations
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and satisfactory driver’s abstract
  • Pass 50 lb. fitness test
  • Pass comprehensive drug and alcohol test
