Purpose

Under the general direction of the Chief Relations Officer, the General Manager of Marketing and Communications is responsible for leading the development and execution of integrated marketing, communications, branding, and stakeholder engagement strategies that advance the priorities of RMA and its group of companies. Working collaboratively with executive leadership, department leads, and key stakeholders, this position provides strategic direction and oversight for all marketing, communications, media relations, digital engagement, and brand initiatives.

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of the Marketing & Communications operational plans, departmental budget, resource allocation, and performance measures, while working collaboratively with department leads.  As a member of the senior leadership team, the General Manager serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, providing strategic counsel on marketing & communications, member engagement, organizational initiatives, and emerging opportunities and risks.

The General Manager leads the creation and implementation of integrated campaigns and initiatives that span media relations, public affairs, branding, graphic design, digital communications, websites, social media, events, and member engagement. This includes providing proactive marketing and communications expertise from both a business and reputational perspective, identifying innovative opportunities to strengthen organizational objectives, and ensuring a consistent and compelling brand presence across RMA and its group of companies.

This position directly supervises all department staff and is responsible for fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and service-oriented culture focused on creativity, continuous improvement, and professional development. The position also oversees relationships with external agencies, consultants, media outlets, and vendors to ensure effective delivery of marketing and communications services.

The role works closely with General Managers and leadership teams across the organization to support strategic priorities, business growth, advocacy initiatives, operational objectives, and organizational change efforts.

The General Manager of Marketing and Communications will have access to highly confidential member and association information, and it is expected and required information be held in the strictest confidence. 

This is an in-office position, located in the Nisku, with some travel required.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and Activities:
  • Develop and execute the Marketing & Communications operational plans, departmental budget, performance measures, and resource allocation strategies.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Marketing & Communications team, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and business objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of organizational strategic plans and enterprise-wide initiatives as a member of the leadership team.
  • Lead the development of integrated marketing, communications, branding, member engagement, and new marketing materials in alignment with branding guidelines.
  • Provide creative advice and devise new marketing communications strategies and campaigns that feature members and vendors, attract new members, and grow the Business Services customer base.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel and marketing expertise to executive leadership, General Managers, and departments across the organization.
  • Oversee the development of creative campaigns, content, and marketing materials that align with corporate brand standards and business goals.
  • Provide strategic oversight and advice on marketing, communications, and growth initiatives across RMA and its group of companies.
  • Ensure that RMA has an effective overall marketing communications strategy to address both long-term business objectives and emerging opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary media liaison between the RMA spokesperson and media outlets.
  • Keep abreast of and make recommendations regarding new and emerging marketing and communication trends from business and media relations perspectives.
  • Recruit, lead, mentor, develop, and evaluate department staff while fostering a culture of collaboration, well-being, accountability, staff development, creativity, and excellence.
  • Manage relationships with external agencies, consultants, media partners, vendors, and contractors to ensure effective service delivery and alignment with organizational objectives

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Minimum 5 years of multi-sector marketing/communications experience.
  • Managerial experience and/or training.
  • Strong leadership, customer-orientation, communication, strategic, business-sense, analytical, financial, and personal management, results-orientated and politically astute.
  • Post-secondary degree in business, public relations, communications, marketing, or similar field.
  • Applicants with an MBA will be considered an asset
