TEC Bridge Inspection Manual and Bridge Management System Modernization Project

On July 28, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) hosted a short webinar outlining their plans for a multi‑year modernization of the provincial Bridge Information System and provincial bridge inspection standards. The project includes developing a new integrated bridge management platform, transitioning to element‑level bridge inspections, and releasing an updated version of the provincial Bridge Inspection Manual.

The modernization is intended to introduce new inspection standards and procedures designed to improve the quality and consistency of bridge data, support risk-based decision-making, and strengthen long-term asset management for both the province and municipalities. For more information, TEC has developed this one-page summary for RMA members.

RMA encourages members to review this webinar recording and to share it with their municipal administrators, as this engagement may lead to significant implications for municipalities’ bridge programs and long-term operations.

To support municipal engagement, TEC has also released an engagement survey, intended to be completed by municipal bridge and infrastructure professionals such as bridge inspectors, public works supervisors, and asset management staff. The survey will be open for feedback until August 18, 2026.
