Summary

The Town of Millet nestled between Wetaskiwin and Leduc on highway 2A. Millet is staffed by a small group of full-time employees that handle wide variety of jobs and tasks for the public. This position performs a variety of tasks relating to the operation and maintenance of municipal water/wastewater systems and streets. Work is performed under limited supervision. Some initiative and judgment are required, with more complex or unusual problems referred to the Public Services Coordinator. Works in a safe and responsible manner.

Key Responsibilities

Examples of Work – The following list does not represent an exhaustive list of the expected duties of the
position, merely an example of some expected duties.
• Assist in water and sewer system installation, operation and repair.
• Routinely check water wells, reservoir and pumps for proper operation.
• Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to grader, wheel loader, backhoe, skid steer,
tandem-axle dump truck/sander, and multi-purpose tractors or machinery, self-propelled lawn
mowers, weed eaters etc.
• Assist the Public Services – Parks staff in the summer months with the maintenance and operations
of the municipal recreation facilities and equipment, parks, green spaces, boulevards, and
cemetery, as required.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform required maintenance and repair.
• Operate a light duty pick-up truck.
• Maintain, repair and remove snow from municipal streets, alleys, sidewalks, parking lots, and land
as required using various machinery and methods.
• Assist in maintenance, operation and repair of facilities through basic plumbing, carpentry, and
painting.
• Keep accurate records and prepare required reports in a timely fashion.
• Take a regular shift on stand-by as required (paid on call).
• Maintain good public relations and operate according to established policies and procedures,
including established Occupational Health & Safety Standards
• Other duties may be assigned or required.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.
• Class 3 with a Q endorsement is considered an asset
• Physically able to perform required tasks.
• Ability to use discretion regarding confidential matters.
• An ability to deal effectively with the public, employees and others in a courteous and tactful manner
and maintain positive and harmonious relationships amongst all with whom the employee may
come in contact.
• Ability to clear a criminal record and vulnerable sector check
• Experience in water and wastewater is considered an asset
