Required Qualifications
• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Public Works Management, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Equivalent combinations of education and progressive municipal experience will be considered.
• Minimum 5–8 years of progressive experience in municipal public works or infrastructure operations.
• Demonstrated experience in road construction, maintenance, drainage, and fleet operations.
• Proven leadership and supervisory experience.
• Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with an acceptable Driver’s Abstract.
• Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to employment.
Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
• Project management or infrastructure-related certifications.
• Experience working in a municipal environment.
• Experience operating heavy equipment or holding applicable equipment certifications/tickets.
Working Conditions
• Combination of office and field-based work.
• Travel within the County is required.
• Schedule may include extended hours during peak operational periods (e.g., construction season, severe weather events)
Compensation and Hours
• Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m
• Work Location: Smoky Lake County Public Works Shop (5004 50 Street, Smoky Lake, Alberta).
• Wage/Benefits: Salary is based on the County’s out-of-scope pay grid and will be determined based on qualifications and experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
