Community Initiative Program Supports Alberta’s Non-Profits

The Government of Alberta’s Community Initiatives Program (CIP) has been updated to support a stronger, more sustainable non-profit sector.

The Community Initiatives Program (CIP) Organizational Development and Collaboration (ODC) Grant helps non-profit organizations become stronger and more sustainable. The CIP ODC Grant has two categories:

  • Collaboratives Grant: Provides funding up to $100,000 for collaboratives to address a community, regional, or non-profit voluntary sector issue.

Applications are accepted on an on-going basis with two deadlines annually. The next application deadline is June 15, 2026, and the application portal will open soon. To connect with the Government of Alberta’s Community Grants office, please contact communitygrants@gov.ab.ca.

RMA strongly believes that support for non-profits and the volunteers that drive their success is invaluable to community well-being. In Fall 2024, RMA released a report on rural volunteerism in Alberta, which focuses on volunteerism trends, including driving factors and community impacts. The report outlines the need for increased financial support for rural volunteer organizations to support their overall viability. The CIP ODC Grant as a positive step in supporting non-profits throughout the province.
