Rate of Pay: $26.48 per hour
End date: Approximately 14-16 weeks ending August 28, 2026
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Sturgeon County is looking for two (2) Economic Innovation & Growth Summer Students to support members of the Economic Innovation and Growth department with administrative duties, hosting events, data collection and analysis, documentation, and the coordination of various business retention and investment attraction related activities.  

This position is partly funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Grant to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years. If you have an interest in Economic Development and are eager and quick to learn within a hybrid work environment, we encourage you to apply!  

Key Responsibilities

Job Duties

  • Collect, enter, and analyze data from sources such as Statistics Canada, Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) surveys, and internal systems to support informed decision-making.
  • Support and maintain the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system through accurate data entry, business engagement tracking, and records management.
  • Engage professionally with local and regional businesses and partners to support relationship-building and economic development initiatives.
  • Assist the Economic Innovation and Growth team by providing project updates, insights, and administrative support as required.
  • Contribute to business retention, expansion, and investment attraction activities, including research, outreach, and follow-up.
  • Support the planning and delivery of events (virtual, hybrid, and in-person) that promote business engagement and community investment.
  • Assist with the development and execution of marketing and promotional initiatives, including content for social media and business communications.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets, reports, and dashboards to support analysis, tracking, and reporting of key initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment with Sturgeon County policies, including adherence to the Health and Safety Management System.

Requirements

Job Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to work onsite at the Sturgeon County Centre, with flexibility to travel within the region and work remotely as required.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to interact professionally with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and represent the County in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret data and support business insights.
  • Creative mindset with an interest in marketing, communications, or business promotion.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with Canva, Linkedin, Facebook, X, Mailchimp, GIS, Dynamics 365, SharePoint, Power BI, and CRM systems are highly advantageous for this role.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates currently enrolled in Business, Management, Marketing, Economics, or a related post-secondary program.
