Summary

The role of the Operations Supervisor at The Pointe Agricultural Event Centre is to plan and coordinate day to day operations and event delivery. Through regular evaluation and collaboration with the leadership team, the Operations Supervisor will have the lead in site maintenance and safety.

In this position, this successful candidate will be someone with experience in event operations and a broad knowledge of the agricultural community. They require attention to detail, strong customer service skills, and the ability to anticipate issues. They will deliver industry-specific training and lead a team of high-performing staff to ensure their team can safely respond to ever-changing operational environments and guest needs. Given the dynamic nature of this facility, this position must be adaptable and able to coordinate staff schedules and complex logistical demands.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee operations at The Pointe Agricultural Event Centre and Pointe-aux-Pins Acres site
  • Ensure high-quality operations delivery to meet community needs by organizing resources, work assignments, scheduling, and projects for the operations team
  • Work with the Programs and Events Supervisor to develop systems, event work plans, and task lists to support major events. These include pre-event preparation, in-event support, and post-event takedown and debriefing
  • Collaborate with event organizers to determine technical requirements, ensure all safety requirements are met, and the event plans are effectively executed as well as identifying facility limitations and determining alternative solutions when required
  • Create and manage operational employee schedules. Ensure sufficient staff and contractors are scheduled, as necessary as well as complete weekly time entry for hourly staff
  • Work with contractors and interdepartmental groups to ensure all site systems and maintenance work are operating safely, effectively, and efficiently as planned
  • Research and provide technical requirements for equipment, including sourcing and ordering of equipment and materials that follow procurement best practices
  • Serve as the site’s safety lead; ensure employees and contractors are knowledgeable of all operational tasks and can execute them safely
  • Create and review effective training processes, competency evaluations, and training matrix, including ensuring all OHS training practices and documentation are complete
  • Research, plan, lead, and implement site initiatives and capital projects to maximize utilization and flexibility for a wide variety of users (group bookings, spontaneous use, and large events)
  • Work with the Facility Supervisor and department accountants to plan and monitor the operations portion of The Pointe’s budget (including staffing, equipment, vehicles, and inventory supply levels)
  • Oversees cleaning staff and manages all aspects of janitorial services for the facility

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Knowledge or experience with agriculture events and arena footing are highly desirable
  • Ability to perform well under pressure, exercise sound judgment, manage multiple priorities and demands, and motivate others to achieve results
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills to identify and anticipate client needs, provide recommendations, and instill confidence in staff and clients
  • Post-secondary specialized training/certificate (Agriculture, Business, Recreation, or in a related field) with a minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in comparable scope/scale.

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
  • Requires the ability to work evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as required
