Education, Qualifications, and Work Experience
- Completed at least one year of a post-secondary Engineering or Engineering Technology program (e.g. Civil Engineering Technology, or related field)
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with databases and GIS systems is an asset.
- Exposure to Autodesk Civil 3D or similar engineering software is considered an asset.
- Basic understanding of civil engineering principles, including stormwater drainage and survey practices.
This position may be subject to grant funding requirements which could require the successful candidates to be between the ages of 16 and 30. Funding approval has not yet been confirmed, and applications from all qualified candidates will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Previous construction related experience is an asset.
- Ability to operate or learn survey equipment.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and self-management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with a professional approach to customer service.
- Proficiency in Computer Aided Design and Drafting and GIS.
- Experienced in reading blueprints and schematics.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Valid class 5 Driver’s License and acceptable Driver’s Abstract.
Physical Effort and Safety Commitment
The employee is responsible for full cooperation with all aspects of the City’s Occupational Health and Safety program, including compliance with all rules and regulations, and for continually practicing safety while performing their duties, and monitor and enforce subordinate compliance with the OH&S program. As a successful applicant you will need to be:
- Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
- Able to work in both office and field environments with uneven terrain, stand for long periods of time on a variety of surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, turf, etc.
- Able to perform physical duties, including lifting materials up to 50lbs.
- Able to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
