Summary

We are currently recruiting for a Journeyperson Carpenter with strong attention to detail, superb organization, and time management skills. As a Carpenter you will be an integral part of the Special Areas team. For you, safety and quality are a priority, and you are proud of your work at the end of each day. The right candidate will provide maintenance and repair to Special Areas facilities, assist in the construction of new facilities, assist in providing estimates, quotes, RFP information for new construction and repairs, and assist in upkeep of the Carpenter Shop, including maintaining the safety of the facility. This position will work alongside another Journeyperson Carpenter to deliver safe, efficient services of high quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Construct, renovate, and maintain facilities including fire halls, water stations, offices, equipment storage sheds, and related structures.
• Perform repairs and maintenance on cook houses and bunk houses.
• Fabricate, assemble, install, and dismantle concrete formwork for cement and foundation projects.
• Prepare material lists; obtain quotations, cost estimates, and develop project timelines.
• Enter and maintain preventative maintenance and project-related data.
• Willingness and ability to perform outdoor work in rural and remote locations, independently and as a team.
• Responsible for adhering to the Special Areas Board Health and Safety Program and all applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) legislation.
• Supervise and work collaboratively with contractors and trades of similar skill sets.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (GED).
• Valid Alberta Certification of Qualification as a Journeyperson Carpenter, with a minimum of two (2) years’ post-certification experience in the trade.
• Demonstrate professionalism as a safety-conscious team player with strong interpersonal, communication, and written skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to remain composed and effective in a fast-paced work environment.
• Sound working knowledge of the Alberta Building Code and applicable regulations.
• Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
• Physically capable of performing all required job duties, including lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
