Working in RMA’s Policy and Advocacy Department, the Member Engagement and Outreach Manager is instrumental in building and maintaining the member and external relationships that RMA relies on to advocate effectively and develop evidence-based and solutions-focused advocacy positions.

Working under the direction of the General Manager of Policy and Advocacy, the Member Engagement and Outreach Manager will lead relationship-building efforts and issue-specific engagement in conjunction with the Policy and Advocacy team. This will include engagement and outreach with staff and elected officials from RMA’s member municipalities and key stakeholder organizations.

Success in the role will be linked to the quality of relationships developed and the extent to which enhanced outreach and engagement strengthens RMA’s advocacy efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities

The key responsibilities for this position are as follows:

  • Developing, implementing, and regularly updating engagement strategies related to how RMA interacts with members and key stakeholder organizations.
  • Regularly preparing for or conducting outreach activities (meetings, event/conference attendance, other communication) with members and key stakeholders.
  • Working closely with the General Manager of Policy and Advocacy to identify emerging engagement and outreach opportunities and establish engagement and outreach goals and outcomes.
  • In conjunction with the Manager of Policy and Research, identifying opportunities to support the Policy and Advocacy team in gathering and utilizing member knowledge, expertise, and data to inform advocacy position development.
  • Developing and implementing specific member engagement processes and initiatives, including but not limited to webinars, surveys, meetings, townhalls, and one-on-one meetings.

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree in political science, intergovernmental affairs, public policy, communications or a related discipline is required.
  • At least five years of professional experience in a policy or government relations position is required.
  • Demonstrated professional experience or familiarity with municipal or rural issues is an asset.
  • Demonstrated professional experience working at or directly with the Government of Alberta or a municipality in Alberta is an asset.
  • A graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector is an asset.
  • A valid Alberta Drivers License with a clean drivers abstract
