Utilities Consumer Advocate

The UCA provides free presentations for municipalities to help support and inform local utility consumers.

The Utilities Consumer Advocate (UCA) advocates for Alberta’s residential, farm, and small business electricity and natural gas consumers and provides trusted information on energy choices, competitive and default retailers, as well as consumer utility rights and responsibilities.

The UCA offers free educational information, resources, services, online and in-person presentations and public webinars on topics including:

  • how Alberta’s electricity and natural gas markets work,
  • ways to reduce utility usage;
  • understanding utility bills, reading meters, and utility industry scams;
  • shopping for utilities and comparing utility rates; and,
  • the Winter Utilities Reconnection Program.

The UCA is offering free online presentations for municipalities and their staff to learn more about the information and services that are available to support utility consumers. These sessions are a great way to enhance understanding of energy choices and consumer protections in Alberta.

If your municipality is interested in arranging a presentation or learning more about how the UCA can support your local ratepayers, please connect with Genevieve Manreal from the UCA’s Consumer Education and Engagement team at genevieve.manreal@gov.ab.ca or reach out to Karla Moldenhauer, Manager of the Consumer Education and Engagement team, at karla.moldenhauer@gov.ab.ca.
