Environment and Protected Areas Releases Code of Practice for Renewable Energy Operations

The Code outlines security and reclamation requirements for renewable energy operations.

On Friday, June 6, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (EPA) released the Code of Practice for Wind and Solar Renewable Energy Operations (the “Code”). The Code outlines the security and reclamation requirements that will be applied by EPA to new and existing wind and solar renewable energy developments across the province, in conjunction with the requirements contained in the Alberta Utilities Commission’s Rule 007: Facilities Applications.

RMA is currently analyzing the Code to determine whether it will address RMA’s reclamation-related priorities raised throughout previous EPA and AUC engagements on renewable energy. RMA will share more information with members in the coming weeks on the adequacy of the Code itself and how it will be used to inform both government-held and landowner-held securities.
