Advocating for Community Peace Officers (CPOs): The Call for Presumed PTSD Coverage

The Rural Municipalities of Alberta collaborated with Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis) and Alberta Association of Community Peace Officers (AACPO) to advocate for presumed PTSD coverage for Community Peace Officers (CPOs) in Alberta.

CPOs face risks and psychological trauma in their roles. However, when seeking Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) support, their PTSD is not presumed to be work-related because they’re not considered first responders in legislation. This hinders their access to support.

This issue is covered in RMA’s Resolution 14-24F: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Coverage for Community Peace Officers Under the Workers’ Compensation Act and ABmunis’ Resolution Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Coverage for Community Peace Officers Under the Workers Compensation Act.
