The City of Cold Lake is seeking a qualified individual to fill the permanent, full-time position of Utilities Senior Operator within the Infrastructure Services Department.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Reporting to the Utilities Foreman, the Senior Operator performs a wide range of activities involved in the maintenance of the water and sewer utilities, as well as other utilities functions. The Senior Operator is required to use independent judgments within the framework of established policies and objectives. This position operates heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of water mains, sanitary and storm sewers, and fire hydrants, as well as sets up traffic control devices and equipment as it relates to asphalt, concrete, and gravel road and street repairs. Additionally, the Senior Operator may be required to assist with the annual planning and budgeting process. The Senior Operator requires substantial knowledge of the operation of heavy motorized maintenance equipment and vehicles, as well as power and hand tools associated with the work environment. The incumbent must be able to follow oral and written instructions and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public. The City of Cold Lake is experiencing an exciting period of growth in its Environmental Services Department, and as such, the incumbent will have the opportunity to be part of major projects such as significant upgrades to our water distribution and collection systems, as well as our wastewater treatment facilities and technology.
Requirements:
The qualifications for this position include a High School diploma or equivalent, Class 3 Operator’s license with Q endorsement, and Alberta Environment Certification – Level III Water Distribution and Level II Wastewater Collection. Standard First Aid with CPR, Confined Space Entry, H2S, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and Heavy Equipment Operator certifications are preferred qualifications. The Senior Operator will have strong time management, computer, communication, organizational, and customer service skills. The incumbent must be able to work independently, as well as within a team environment, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality. Preference will be given to applicants who have a minimum 3-5 years’ experience in utilities and infrastructure maintenance, preferably in a Municipal or other government setting.
